Eighteen years of standing with the marginalized
Jharkhand Mahila Jagriti (JMJA) was founded in 2008 in Amritnagar, Hazaribagh, by a team of young social activists and professionals led by Indermani Kumari, who holds a master's degree in Psychology. Deeply inspired by the principles of Gandhi, Lohia, Mother Teresa and Jayaprakash Narayan, she had long served weaker and marginalized sections of society — first with the people's organization Lok Samiti and later as a teacher at Amritnagar High School.
Together with six like-minded co-founders, she registered the organization as a society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. Since then, JMJA has worked across Hazaribagh and the adjoining districts of Chatra, Koderma and Ramgarh — reaching 18 blocks across 3 districts — building successful, community-led models among children, women, persons with disabilities, marginal farmers, adolescents, particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs), the elderly, and the environment.
“JMJA visualizes an equitable, peaceful and just society where no one remains hungry or exploited, and everyone lives with dignity — without facing discrimination of caste, creed, colour, religion or birthplace.”
To organize and empower the marginalized sections of society and promote development as a liberating force — aimed at social justice, economic growth and self-reliance through self-initiative and a rights-based approach, enabling people to manage their own economic, social and educational affairs sustainably.
We follow the core principles of equality, justice, peace and fraternity, and believe in the collective wisdom of the people. JMJA is committed to transparency, integrity and good governance, gender equality, and giving special priority to needy children, women and girls — nurturing the potential of the marginalized and linking them with the resources they need for holistic development.
JMJA is a fully registered NGO with 12A, 80G, FCRA and CSR registration. See our Reports & Transparency page for full legal and financial details.
